Dr. Ben Bao
Zhongjie (Ben) completed his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Western Ontario under the supervision of Dr. Paul Frewen. During his PhD, Ben has used electroencephalograghy (EEG) to investigate the neural correlates of self-referential processing. Ben also measured the impact of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques on EEG during self-referential experimental paradigms. Additionally, he completed his masters of arts in counselling psychology from Yorkville university and is currently a practicing registered psychotherapist (qualifying). At the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, Ben works as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Andrew Nicholson on projects that aim to understand the lived experience and the brain's response to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the impact of vicarious tramatization on the spouses of individuals with PTSD. The research findings may further our understanding of the subjective experience and neurobiological markers of PTSD and secondary traumatic stress among initimate partners, as well as providing insights into developing effective interventions for individual and families impacted by trauma.
